Industry Highlight - Wellborn Cabinet, Inc.Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. Since 1961, the Wellborn family has owned and operated Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. Headquartered in Alabama, in the southern part of the Appalachian Mountains, Wellborn encompasses over 1.5 million square feet. They integrally operate their own timber processing mill, hand selecting the finest solid cherry, maple, oak and hickory hardwoods to use with time-honored craftsmanship fashioning each piece of cabinetry, providing their customers with lasting beauty and heirloom quality. In 2007, Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. chose to invest $3 million to open a cabinet manufacturing operation in Smyth County, Va. The company, occupies the former Vaughan-Bassett facility, and will create approximately 100 new jobs. According to Virginia economic development officials, the state successfully competed against Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and West Virginia for the project. "We looked at opportunities in several surrounding states before deciding to commit our company to Smyth County, Virginia,” said Paul Wellborn, Chairman and President of Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. “The dedicated and experienced employee base we encountered in Smyth County, the benefit of being close to lumber sources and the support we received from the county and state throughout the process were the deciding factors in our decision. We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to a long relationship with Virginia and the people of Smyth County.” |
